Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS or LCAS-A)

LOCATION: LUMBERTON TREATMENT CENTER
SCHEDULE: 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday–Friday

SUMMARY:
Responsible for delivering competent, safe, high-quality, and professional care to all patients assigned to their caseload or covered in the absence of team members, strictly adhering to Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Utilizes clinical knowledge of chemical dependency and psychotherapy techniques to provide effective education and psychotherapy to assigned patients and support clinical units.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes the following (other duties may be assigned):
  • Clinical Care & Psychotherapy: Provide high-quality clinical care, individual, and group psychotherapy tailored to meet treatment plan goals and objectives while maintaining compliance with facility expectations, State Medical Assistance (SMA), and licensing boards.
  • Documentation: Generate clear, concise, and timely documentation across all clinical areas, including admit notes, assessments, daily charting, weekly clinical reviews, staffing notes, biopsychosocials, treatment plans and updates, transition/discharge planning, family sessions, and discharge summaries.
  • Care Management & Patient Support: Perform crisis interventions, screening, intake, orientation, assessments, treatment planning, patient education, and referrals while maintaining ethical and confidential records. Communicate openly and professionally with referral sources and conduct post-discharge follow-ups.
  • Team Collaboration & On-Call Rotation: Participate actively in weekly treatment team and staff meetings, collaborate effectively with peers and interdisciplinary professionals, and participate in the after-hours crisis phone rotation.
  • Medicaid/Medicare & LME/MCO Responsibilities:
    • Complete Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (CCAs) to ensure consumers receive prompt, efficient access to care.
    • Formulate, maintain, and update Person-Centered Plans (PCPs) and Comprehensive Crisis Plans (CCPs) for each Medicaid/Medicare client in accordance with LME/MCO service definitions and evolving client needs.
    • Verify self-reported Medicaid/Medicare coverage and catchment area details prior to intake assessments, and verify monthly recipient eligibility via NCTracks.
    • Manage timelines to ensure all clinical documentation, CCAs, PCPs, and claims are uploaded promptly to the designated LME/MCO provider portal to prevent coverage or authorization lapses.
    • Research, correct, and resubmit any denied authorizations to avoid loss of client coverage.
    • Ensure all counseling sessions and clinical documentation strictly conform to State and Federal regulatory requirements and LME/MCO billable service standards within the EMR system.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Education: Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related human services field.
  • Licensure & Credentials: Active NC licensure as an LCAS, LCAS-A, LCSW, or LCSW-A. Active registration with the North Carolina Addictions Specialist Professional Practice Board (NCASPPB) and completion of all mandated continuing education hours to maintain licensure.
  • Core Competencies: Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment, with a strong commitment to professional ethics.
